This Week in Math. . .
PLACE VALUE
This week we will continue to look at PLACE VALUE in math. We will also explore the different forms in which number can be written: STANDARD FORM, WRITTEN FORM, EXPANDED FORM.
We will end the week with a STATE PLACE VALUE FLAG. Students may need to print a colored flag to paste on their project. Each group will be assigned a state on Wednesday.

This Week in Spelling. . .
Spelling will be directly tied to our math this week. Students will be expected to be able to spell all key number words:
Number words will be pasted into students' spelling books. Students will be given a number in standard form and will be expected to spell it correctly.
Example:
67,987,230
sixty-seven million, nine hundred eighty seven thousand, two hundred thirty
567, 901
five hundred sixty-seven thousand, nine hundred one
Practice at home.
Test will be on Thursday!

This Week in Reading. . .
This week since we finished our first novel we are going to take a break and read a non-fiction magazine article about a boy from Tanzania named Osawa. The article's title is, "The Boy Who Couldn't Smile" by Lauren Tarshis. We look at some difficult vocabulary as well as work on summarizing.
PWT (Personal Work TIme)
During small groups the students have time each day to complete a list of tasks All tasks are due by Friday afternoon. This week students will be expected to:
Practice Cursive I & J, Practice writing numbers in word form, read and complete a Readworks magazine article online, and finish a creative writing piece about "What Makes Me Special".
