As we have learned in class the Earth is full of rocks and minerals! Some of those minerals are special - they are called gems. There are special gems called birthstones and they are paired with the months of the year. Birthstones are thought to bring good luck to those born in that month. Now it is time to learn more about your birthstone!
TASK: Research your birthstone and create a detailed poster
(size = ¼ – ½ poster board so that all can be displayed – NO FULL POSTER BOARDS)
with the information you have discovered. Upon completion you will present your poster project to your classmates.
**Note** If your birthday is in June you should research the Alexandrite which is another gem since the Pearl is not considered a mineral.
REQUIREMENTS:
Your project must include - Written out in your handwriting. . .
☆ At least 5-6 Interesting Significant Facts that include:
☆ Birthstone’s Properties – Color, True Color (streak test) Luster
(either waxy, dull, metallic, glass-like),
and Hardness (according to the Mohs Scale)
☆ Where the Birthstone can be naturally found
☆ How is the Birthstone is formed
☆ One or more printed or colored pictures
☆ Cite websites/books that you have used on your poster
Note: PLEASE make sure you understand your facts and vocabulary that you use on your poster. Do additional research if necessary to understand the required information. Facts that are clearly copied/pasted from sources will NOT count! EVERYONE will share his/her project!
